- anthony begley Added 16/10/2018★ ★ ★ ★ ★The Orphan Girls' Memorial is located in a peaceful place beside the workhouse in Ballyshannon and is accessible at all times. The memorial remembers 19 orphan girls who went to Sydney Australia as part of the Earl Grey scheme during the Famine in 1848. The memorial tells the story of the named girls and is well worth a visit as you can also look around the exterior of the workhouse which still stands. Well worth a visit on the Wild Atlantic Way.
